Trump's former lawyer resigns in the wake of appeals court disqualifies her.

Alina Habba has left her position as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a legal ruling that invalidated her right to serve.

Official Departure

The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. She commented that the court's "flawed" ruling made it unworkable for Habba to lead the department effectively.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "My fight will now extend throughout America."

Court Ruling

Her resignation comes a week after a US appeals court determined that she had been unlawfully serving as US attorney. This decision is expected to impact numerous prosecutions in the state.

The court ruled that a interim role that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate violated the federal law governing appointments.
