Authorities in the island state are working to identify a rosy sludge that has surfaced on a isolated coast, with certain experts worried it could be an phytoplankton proliferation.
The pink-tinged sludge appeared along a stretch of a coastal area about 60 kilometers south of the capital. A like substance has also been recorded on sections of Little Roaring Beach and an additional coastal site.

Lilly Henley, who collected samples of the magenta ooze in Tasmania, commented it looked like the possible outbreak had "increased notably" and proposed the aquaculture sector was the probable cause, citing similar cases elsewhere.
"Therefore Tasmania needs to deliver a clear message here, the officials and the EPA need to act to this. We need to study the samples we've collected and we need to inform the people here," she emphasized.
Henley expressed she had concerns for public safety after noticing a prickling feeling along her limbs and skin while being sprayed with contaminated seawater.
An environmental foundation has reported deceased sea creatures and expired organisms washing ashore, with a prominent conservationist labeling the situation as an "ecological crisis" and urging the local leader to inspect and "take control the effort that authorities must be undertaking".
"The leader needs to realize this is a catastrophe in the unfolding, commercially as well as ecologically."
Addressing reporters, the premier commented he was not aware of any relationships between the algae outbreak and the farming business, emphasizing expert examination was needed before determinations could be made.
"We need to ensure our aquatic environments are ecologically sound and long-lasting," he said.
"The 1,200 beaches across the island are our resources and we need to guarantee the public and our business sector can live together to enjoy our seas efficiently and responsibly."
