Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the right to question certain decisions from the chair umpire, following the system already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This move arrives only a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old role of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine specific situations, including:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there is no cap on the number of challenges a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

An illustrative incident occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
